Mia Rodriguez
My name is Mia Rodriguez. I am 14 years old attending Mater Dei Prep. I am Caribbean, of Puerto Rican and Dominican descent. Although I grew up in the United States, I have always felt a deep-rooted connection to my culture as a Caribbean woman. My heritage is an important part of my life and something that I have always been proud of despite the people who try to make it appear shameful. As a child, my parents had always preached to me that I must leave this world better than when I came into it. And that is what I intend to do. I wish to help others in any way that I can and to better our society. Some interests of mine are playing on my high school soccer team, singing, playing the piano, watching anime, and reading. I am not quite sure yet what I plan on doing with the rest of my life. But here are the things I do know; I aspire to be a strong and independent woman who somehow impacts the world. I also aspire to be a good and genuine person. Now that may seem like a silly thing to say but sometimes it can be challenging with the punches life throws at you. But no matter what, I want to be seen as someone who always had a smile on her face, and as a girl who tried her best to help others. In a world where beauty and wealth are fleeting, I wish to live my life to the fullest and to surround myself with people who truly love and care for me. After all, the most beautiful thing a person could ever offer is their good nature, not their appearance. The experience I have in leadership is being a part of the leadership program in my middle school, being a member of the National Junior Honors Society, and being a Girl Scout in troop 80813.
